Potboilers, mostly. But hey, I still like crime mysteries, so&#8230; There you go. Maybe it&#8217;s just a case of professional jealousy&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But count me among those who <a title=\"Turow on DOJ Investigation\" href=\"http:\/\/www.authorsguild.org\/advocacy\/articles\/letter-from-scott-turow-grim.html\">agree with his stance<\/a> as Authors Guild President that the DOJ, in its investigation into price collusion between Apple and major publishers, &#8220;may be on the verge of killing real competition in order to save the appearance of competition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>One set of numbers tells the tale:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Before Apple entered the eBook market, Amazon accounted for an <a title=\"Scott Turow on Amazon, DOJ\" href=\"http:\/\/www.authorsguild.org\/advocacy\/articles\/letter-from-scott-turow-grim.html\">estimated 90% <\/a>of eBook sales.<\/li>\n<li>After Apple entered the market, that figure dropped to an <a title=\"Frederic Filloux: Defending the Agency Model\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mondaynote.com\/2012\/03\/11\/ebooks-defending-the-agency-model\/\">estimated 60%<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yeah, I know he&#8217;s been <a title=\"David Gaughran\" href=\"http:\/\/davidgaughran.wordpress.com\/2012\/03\/10\/scott-turow-wrong-about-everything\/?blogsub=confirming#blog_subscription-3\">criticized<\/a>&#8230; Called a <a title=\"The Scratch: Escalante\" href=\"http:\/\/redress-redroom.blogspot.com\/2012\/03\/turncoat-turow-lawyer-turned-author.html\">turncoat<\/a>&#8230; It&#8217;s the same rhetoric over and over&#8230; In the three-legged stool represented by publishers, authors and consumers&#8230; The consumer is king.
