On June 13, 1983, Cindy Paulson was kidnapped and raped, her life threatened by Robert Hansen. Her eventual getaway was central to Hansen’s ultimate capture and confession to the murder of dozens of women. Three months later, Cindy agreed to a detailed interview with Sgt. Glenn Flothe, the Alaska State Trooper in charge of the homicide investigation. This interview helped pave the way for Hansen’s indictment in the murders. <\/em><\/p>\n

\nCINDY<\/strong>: Um hmm.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: Mark that. OK, write garage there. OK.
\nCINDY<\/strong>: When you walk from the garage, you walk up the steps and go to the right and they\u2019ll take you into the house. And to the right, as soon you walk in the door, is a closet. And then to the left there\u2019s some stairs going down and there\u2019s a big moose with buffalo heads in it and then you go down some more stairs and it leads you into the downstairs. To the basement, what he called his den.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: OK. Did you go into that closet at all, Cindy?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: No.<\/p>\n

FLOTHE<\/strong>: OK. For the purposes of the tape, Investigator Casper was on the phone there, so we know who he was. (to Casper: \u2018That\u2019s all right.\u2019) And you say there\u2019s a moose head\u2026
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Uh huh.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: Right here. OK. That\u2019s to the left.
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Uh huh.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: And then past that you go down some more stairs and then you go down?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Yes. Yes.

\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: OK. That\u2019s Page 2 and that shows going from the garage, up the steps, make a right (sic), then to the left there\u2019s a moose head, closet, then you go down some steps\u2026 Is that like a basement or?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: It\u2019s probably his den.<\/p>\n

\nCINDY<\/strong>: Yes. And they\u2019re closed and barred.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: Barred? What do you mean?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Barred like the wire they have at the police station. Like, I really didn\u2019t see \u2018em close, \u2018cause I was chained to the floor. But it looked like they had like little bullet proof wires in \u2018em.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: Hmm. OK. Bullet proof glass? Were there curtains on the windows?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Uh huh, black curtains.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: How could you see the windows with the curtains on them?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Because they kept flapping about three inches and I was staring at them.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: What color were the curtains?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Black or a dark brown.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: Now, this describes the downstairs. Where do you come in the downstairs from the dining room?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Right here.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: OK. Put \u2018Entry\u2019 there. Entry \u2013 as you enter, where is the front of the house with the street side, do you know?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: To\u2026 the\u2026 right.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: Will the street side be on which side of the page here?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: The right. At the bottom.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: The bottom. OK. Put the \u2018Street\u2019 down here. OK. Now, as you come in, think back and describe as you come in, what\u2019s\u2026

CINDY<\/strong>: (Continued) And to the left there\u2019s a window and like a washer and dryer and [inaudible]. And then there\u2019s some clothes on the back and then there\u2019s a bathroom. And a foosball table, a pool table and then there\u2019s another window on the street side.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: OK. What\u2019s this over here, this square thing?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: A bar and the washer.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: You mean like a bar like where you have\u2026
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Uh huh.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: \u2026 booze and stuff?
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Uh huh, like a little wet bar.
\nFLOTHE<\/strong>: Oh.
\nCINDY<\/strong>: Where things are stacked.
