Yours truly now shares intimate revelations about Robert Hansen. When I say intimate, I mean revelations coming from Hansen himself. In his own voice, in his own words. I take you behind the scenes, into his fractured, distorted vision. See for yourself how his deadly obsession evolved.
The attached video takes you through Robert Hansen’s evolution from seemingly benign baker to methodical killing machine. These things did not happen all at once. His was a gruesome work in progress, put to a halt far too late.
ROBERT HANSEN: THE KILLING FIELDS
The Big Lie
If there’s one takeaway, it’s this: Hansen’s life was a lie. He lied to himself. Lied to his wife. Lied to authorities. His lies were always in service of his one, abiding obsession. The fixation that took him deep into the night scenes of Anchorage, with its dancers and sex workers. He was perennially on the prowl. He couldn’t stop himself.
As Sgt. Glenn Flothe, AST Ret., once said of the man:
“I don’t think his initial exploits were simply to take them out and kill them. He wanted to dominate them, he wanted to use them, he wanted to feel power around them — so in a way, I think it was getting back at women. I think it’s a general hate for women — but back then, initially, it was hate coupled with sexual desire. I think as he went on, I think his sexual desire lessened and in fact disappeared. And it was simply the hate and the thrill of the chase, the hunt and the capture and the kill. Simple as that. And he was like an animal that’s tasted blood. He couldn’t stop.”
